Tucson Gem Show - day 5

Time flies by quickly when you are so busy you can't think about anything except selling, replenishing the table and counting the money. Day 5 is upon us and the show has been good. Buyers are flying in daily from all over the country and the world. Lots of competition from really good vendors selling good quality beads.

Sunday night we joined the Bead Collectors Group for dinner at Marisco's and shared everyones bead finds and brags. Fun.

J-Me checked out JOGS yesterday and Guy walked the Holidome tent. This is a BIG show.

Opening day at Gem Mall

The Gem Mall and Holidome open today at 10am - it will no doubt be totally insane.

We spent 2 days setting up our booth at Gem mall and finished by 6pm then went shopping. Spent all our money and our sons inheritance, but had fun doing it.

The first day of set up was overcast and cool, good set up weather. We had hired 2 young guys to help unload and set up. One was good, a hard worker. The other was useless. We fired him and had the second guy come back for day two. We will use him to break down on the last day. The second day it rained hard all day and some of the booths got flooded out. It was a mess.

One observation - the same small toilets we have always had at Gem Mall are all we will have for Gem Mall and Holidome. I see a major problem happening. Four huge tents with 3,000 vendors and hundreds of thousands of customers with only a handful of stalls. Bring your pee bottles people.

Anyway, thats all I have. We were too busy to take pics for the blog and opening morning will be insane.

Tucson Gem Show.

We survived Quartzsite and the desert, and arrived in Tucson last night. Set up camp in our RV spot at Rincon West, and Guy hit the hot tub to soak out all the aches and pains.

To retrace our steps  for a minute, Quartzsite was just like normal these last few years…. dusty, weather was nice (73 degrees) not much wind, lots of sun. Traffic wasn't too bad. Found lots of  deals, some of them quite good. Bought some stuff, sold some stuff.

Dan from Ayla's Originals had carried a tub of African stone and wood carvings for us from Iowa where it was sitting in storage, and we sold it all one night while at dinner with friends in camp. Now we  don't have to carry it around and hope none of it breaks. It was heavy, too! Spent the money earned on new stuff. Now we have to carry that around with us.

Went rockhounding out in the desert, found some flouresent calcedony that we can grind down into cabs. Had fun. Got really dirty. Came back to camp and took a nap.

Walked around Desert Gardens and Pow Wow. Saw a friend (Duck from Eugene, Oregon) selling in front of his RV truck.

Driving into Tucson we saw all the gem show tents being set up. Excitement growing. Our set up for Gem Mall is Thursday and Friday, and opening day is Saturday. Can't wait! Actually, I can. I'm reading a really good book, and poolside /hot tub is really enticing. Who wants to work?

By the way, when we left home in California, gas was $2.79 a gallon. By the time we reached Quartzsite it was $2.26, and along I-10 towards Phoenix/ Gila Bend/Tucson it dropped as low as $1.73 a gallon. Wow! Haven't seen gas this low in years.

Tucson Gem Show.

First stop on our road trip to Tucson is the trunk show in Bull Head City at PJ's Bead Box.

Got into town late Tuesday and set up our RV in the RV Park, then drove to the store and unloaded all our beads and buttons onto the tables.

Wednesday morning bright and early and sunny, and customers coming in.

Lots of glass beads.

Lots of turquoise

G&LW Tucson Show - 2015

This is it - our biggest show of the year. This kicks off our year with the loading of our motorhome, trailer and truck over the last month with all the beads, buttons and baskets we will be selling, as well as the glassware, filigree, vintage, cabochons and other cool and exotic stuff we have found during the year. Along with that stuff is the other essentials such as tables, grid walls, lights and extension cords, table coverings, receipt books and plastic bags.
Oh and did I mention new pens? You will have to come see us to find out what I am talking about.

Luckily we have the luxury of a month to load, because we only have 2 days to unload once we arrive at the Gem Mall in Tucson.

Before we get to Tucson we stop off in Bull Head City, Arizona for a 2 day trunk show at PJ's Bead Box.

Then a 2 day trunk show at Havasu Bead in Lake Havasu City, …….

before hitting Quartzsite for some rockhounding out in the desert and down time with friends.

Hopefully we can find this rock in the desert….. we will tell you the rest of the story if we find it again!!!

Then Tucson.
