Sunday we relaxed all day. We enjoyed the day off together.
Monday we drove to Quartzsite and set up in the desert with "Ye Olde Timers" rock club. Dry camped. We had BBQ dinner with long time friends. Caught up on the gossip and what they have been doing all year on the road. Got to see some lovely new beaded creations by Carole.
Tuesday- we walked around Desert Gardens and bought stuff. Saw old friends and met some new contacts. Soaked up the dust. Candy even had a great day roaming around with us! Weather was in the middle 70's with no wind. Fabulous!
Wednesday QIA(PowWow) opened and we showed up late. Shopped, bought stuff and saw more old friends. Picked up some more dust. We then relaxed at camp. Soaked up the warm air and the dust. BBQ'd, took naps, read books.
Thursday, (thats today) 1/23/14, we woke up late (9am) and went rockhounding out deep in the desert, looking for desert roses (chalcedony). Found lots, along with lots of dust. The plan is to remove the dust and dirt, then grind and cut the rocks into cabochons for wire wrapping or bead weaving. We found mostly whites, with some pinks, lavenders and oranges. Very nice. When it gets dark we will take out our black light to see which ones are florescent. Candy is now sick of the dust and wind and is not liking going rockhounding with us.
Some of the lovely cacti in the Quartzsite desert!
Then had a BBQ for lunch.
and then off to Desert Gardens to go pick up some Australian beads. yummy!!! This is our last day to shop.
The rest of the day was spent beading! J-ME taught her friend Dianna a few new beading projects. Yippee.
Sunday- a day for tagging, tying and getting beads ready. See our friends before heading to Tucson. Had a nice BBQ and saw the sun going down. Not very many lovely colors this year. Maybe when we get to Tucson.
